THE
COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) |
|
| Thursday
1st May 2008 - 8pm |
| The
Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (Abridged)
embodies one of comedy's most essential impulses:
the adolescent urge to take a baseball bat
to the culturally revered. A mix of pratfalls,
puns, willful misreadings of names and dialogue,
clunky female impersonations, clean-cut ribaldry,
and broad burlesque. The gung-ho vitality
is impossible to resist. The conversion of
the histories into a football game is very
funny. So is a rap version of Othello. Hamlet
truly soars and allows the actors to come
into their own as manic clowns. At its giddiest,
its tone recalls the fabled Bullwinkle cartoon
shows. (back

| Over
twenty years ago ‘Stars In Their Eyes’
hit our TV screens transforming everyday people
into superstars for one night. Since his appearance
thirteen years ago performing as Meat Loaf,
Steve Steinman has become a star in his own
right. Known for his performances in the hit
shows The Meat Loaf Story and Vampires Rock,
Steve has a fan base most rock stars would
be proud of. He has performed at the London
Palladium and most recently taken the show
on a UK arena tour where he played to thousands
of his fans. Discarding the pretence of wigs
and make-up for his new show, Steve lets his
voice and performance do the talking. The
show delivers the best of the best from three
of the world’s top-selling albums of
all time - Bat Out Of Hell 1, 2 and 3. With
its video projected scenes, incredible stage
set, superb band and Steve Steinman’s
unique sense of humour and stage presence,
the show will have you up on your feet and
dancing in the aisles to all the greatest
Meat Loaf hits - Paradise by the Dashboard
Light, Took the Words Right out of my Mouth,
Anything For Love, The Monster is Loose and
Bat Out Of Hell, to name just a few.

Saturday 3rd May 2008 - 8pm |
| Simon
Amstell made his name presenting music shows
on Channel 4 and Nickelodeon before taking over
as host on BBC’s anarchic music quiz Never
Mind The Buzzcocks. He quickly stamped the show
with his own unique and irreverent personality
and went on to collect two prizes at the British
Comedy Awards. His material is challenging and
playful – delivered with enormous charm
and just a little of the trademark sarcasm we’ve
come to expect. Brilliantly sharp and criminally
funny. (back

| Sunday
4th May 2008 - 7.30pm |
| Glitz,
Blitz and 70's Hitz is a spectacular celebration
of the best of British glam rock with three
classic bands of the era. On one amazing bill
Showaddywaddy, Sweet and The Rubettes will
be putting on a sensational show and transporting
you back to the very best of seventies glam
rock. With their
stylish rebirth of the 50’s Rock N’
Roll, Showaddywaddy became one of the biggest
groups of the 70s and dominated the British
charts. After their first release “Hey
Rock and Roll” shot to no.2, they went
on to spend an impressive 209 weeks in the
chart’s top 40s. Ten single releases
were top ten, including the smash no. 1 “Under
the Moon of Love”. They are now celebrating
over 30 years in the business. Joining Showaddywaddy
on this spectacular bill is one of the biggest
glam-rock bands of the era, Sweet. Sweet are
the quintessential 70’s glam rock band,
who brought androgynous looks and crunching
guitar pop to the masses. Including their
smash no.1 “Blockbuster”, they
had 17 charting hits and spent over three
years in the charts alone. Completing this
classic bill, we present The Rubettes. The
Rubettes first made No.1 in 1974 with their
very first single 'Sugar Baby Love' and after
five weeks at the coveted No.1 spot in the
they repeated their success throughout the
world. 'Sugar Baby Love' sold eight million
copies after which the Rubettes went on to
have a further 15 International Hits establishing
themselves, with their flamboyant Gatsby appearance,
as one of the icons of the 70's Glam Rock
era.
